<description>This month marks the 70th anniversary of Operation Chariot the daring raid on the docks at St Nazaire in Brittany but this year is different it is the first year that there will be no survivors  to remember the raid as the last survivor Eric De La Torre died on August 22nd 2011 aged 92.
The first the group of commandos knew of Operation Chariot was when they were sent on a dock demolition course in Southampton with the promise of a bit of fun at the end of it.
The bit of fun was to destroy the dock at St Nazaire on the north bank of the river Loire the only dock in France that could be used by the battleship Tirpitz so preventing her from attacking convoys in the Atlantic.
The force left Falmouth on March 26th 1942 the flotilla was led by the old destroyer Campbeltown packed with delayed action explosives. The flotilla managed to convince the Germans that it was friendly as it approached St Nazaire under the cover of  night but the calm was short lived as they neared the lock gates ...</description>

AT BRITTANY FOREVERYONE
I have introduced an open chatroom to the site where you can meet up with friends and communicate in real time you can get involved with a general conversation or you can have a private one to one chat.

Also I am working on a new forum France For Everyone for 2012 and in the near future all the sites will be on Twitter so 2012 is going to see a big push forward.
